X-Gal: Datasheet Applications: - blue/white screening - distinguish between positive and negative clones after transformation Description: X-Gal is a highly pure molecular biology grade chemical for colorimetric detection of b-galactosidase activity. It is used for “blue/white screening” of bacterial colonies to differ bacterial or phage clones after transformation. In combination with suitable bacterial cloning vectors, host strains, and IPTG, X-Gal provides an easy way to distinguish between positive and negative clones after transformation. Quality: Purity of >98% by HPLC. Tested in the blue/white colony screening experiment. Note: - Preparation of a 20 mg/ml stock solution in dimethylformamide or dimethylsulfoxide is recommended. - Dimethylformamide dissolves some plastic materials. The direct addition of dimethylformamide containing solution to plastic Petri dishes should be avoided. Storage: at - 20°C in the dark; shipped at ambient temperature
